wedding stationery tips

when to mail

Save the date cards can be mailed a year before your wedding day.

Ideally, your invitations should go out 2 months before your wedding day. This should give your guests plenty of time to plan and save your special day on their calendar. InStyle Wedding Magazine recently recommended you start your wedding stationery order 6-9 months before your wedding day. So be sure to plan ahead! Especially if you want unique custom stationery!

Mail wedding announcements on your wedding day.

reply by date

Your reply by date can be 3 weeks before your wedding day. OR ask your wedding coordinator and/or caterer their preference then figure your reply by date from there. Make a list of your guests and assign a number to each household that will be replying. Write in a sharp pencil on the back of each reply card super tiny that number on each reply card you give to that household corresponding with your list! This way when they send back, and if they forget to write in their names, YES they sometimes do this, YOU will know WHO they are by the number on the back! Waahhhlah!

inner envelopes

Inner lined envelopes can be used for decoration and/or addressing to your guests to let them know who exactly is invited to your wedding.

Some guests may ask "Can we bring the five kids or not?" The inner envelope will help eliminate some of the questions your guests may ask. By addressing your inner envelopes to only the parents, according to etiquette they should respect and understand you are inviting only the two of them, not Bobby, Teddy, Mikey, Sammy and Katie their five children.

stationery assembly

FYI -- Insert your invite and alternative cards inside your inner envelope as illustrated below. Text facing up. When inserting your cards turn the envelope opening to the right.

Insert your inner envelope inside your outer envelope. The front of inner envelope facing up. When inserting your inner envelope turn the outer envelope opening to the right, as illustrated below. The inner envelope opening is also to the right.

allow time

Allow yourself 2 weeks to address envelopes and assemble all of your wedding stationery. Remember to rest and take breaks from wedding planning. Be sure to treat yourself to a nice bath and soothing music!
